RNCC unites Russian specialists in
crystallography and does a lot for the development, coordination and wide
information interchange on crystallography.
Questions of search, synthesis and receiving of new materials, problems of the studying of the atomic structure of minerals, inorganic and organic substances, bioactive compounds, high-temperature superconductors and biological macromolecules are in the centre of attention. RNCC activity is concerned with the conferencing, information spreading and organization of the exhibitions of the new experimental equipment for the crystallographic studies.
At the same time Russian National Committee for Crystallography realizes the membership of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) and takes an active part in its work. The representatives of the Russian crystallography are the members of the most of elected bodies of IUCr. Academician N.V. Belov was the President of IUCr, academician B.K. Vainshtein, prof. V.I. Simonov and prof. L.A. Aslanov took up Vice-President posts, many of the Russian crystallographers worked earlier and are still working in the IUCr Executive Committee and the IUCr Commissions.
Holding a Congresses, Conferences, Symposia and Schools on all of the sections of crystallography is the major line of IUCr. IUCr organizes Crystallographic Congresses each three years. European Crystallographic Association holds the European Crystallographic Conferences every year between the Congresses. Publication of the international scientific journals in crystallography (three series of the Acta Crystallographica and the Journal of Applied Crystallography) and periodical publication of the reference books and International Tables for Crystallography is the important line of activity of IUCr.
Russian National Committee for Crystallography takes an active part in all of the listed activities of IUCr.
